Dog Day Afternoon

December 9, 2009

There is nothing like a friend who cares enough to forward items they know you will love. Special thanks to Judy Colbert, one of mom’s friends from Maryland, who sent us a press release from the Maritime Republic of Eastport (sounds fancy!) for their .05 Run Across the Eastport Bridge and Dog Day Afternoon.

The .05 Mile Run in 32 Seconds!

Dog Day Afternoon in Eastport

Yes, you saw this correctly – it’s the .05 Mile run. And, in case any of the dogs get tired, they offer a water/rest station at the half-way point. It’s been completed in about 32 seconds by past champions. I’m SURE I could stretch that out to a good 3-minute stroll, unless mom was pushing me in my stroller! Fortunately for all the entrants, the race hosts provide a map of the race course and they have a Mercedes-Benz pace car to lead the way. Last time, however, the runners overtook the pace car.

The race started at noon, and awards were given out at 12:03PM. Gotta love it! Afterward was the Dog Day Afternoon, which featured contests for singing, costumes, dancing, and more. I think if mom would put her hair in a ponytail and glue on some eyelashes (mine are REAL!), we could win a “Dog Owner Look-alike” contest – for sure!
